    Michael has signed a multi-year partnership with the global brand Speedo. This exciting collaboration will bring together a passion both in and out of the water, and look to inspire communities all around the world.

    Gunning is a passionate advocate for championing diversity within swimming and fights to provide multiple opportunities for minority and underrepresented communities across the UK. Research has also shown that 95% of black adults and 80% of black children can’t swim in the UK, and he’s on a mission to change that statistic and provide greater access to all.

  • Paris 2024 Olympic Games

    Michael has been named as a Pride House Ambassador for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games this Summer. He made waves at Birmingham 2022 when he helped set up their Commonwealth Games Pride Network, and aims to create a safe and nurturing space for all athletes, staff and spectators during Paris 2024.

    Gunning made history when he became the first out gay swimmer on the British and Jamaican National teams and this exciting collaboration aims to combat discrimination in sport, whilst embodying the IOC / Pride House's true core values: excellence, respect, friendship, inclusion, fairness and respect.

  • British Elite Athletes Association

    Michael has been appointed as the BEAA Ambassador (formally the British Athletes Commission) for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The British Elite Athletes Association is the representative body for athletes currently on the World Class Pathway across over 40 sports; providing a unique service that delivers expert, confidential and independent support to Britain’s elite athletes.

    Gunning helps champion the athlete's voice and this exciting collaboration draws on his own experiences to support and strengthen the BEAA’s existing work in ED&I, furthering their ability to engage and support athletes of all backgrounds.

Michael also uses his platform to support several Charities and causes close to his heart. At present, he lends his voice to Stonewall, Diversity Role Models, The Youth Sport Trust, Just Like Us and Save the Children, and is also an active Patron for the Kaleidoscope Trust charity, which fights for the human rights of LGBTQ+ people around the Commonwealth and beyond.
